Quinta do Piloto, a Family Winery in the Fourth Generation

Quinta do Piloto Winery is located in the region of Palmela and is full of history and tradition. Humberto Cardoso bought the estate in 1910, and currently, Filipe Cardoso, the fourth generation of the family, owns the winery and is the current chief winemaker. The wines result from the best grapes chosen from over 200 hectares of vineyards in the best areas of the region. Humberto Cardoso decided to invest his profits in the growing viticulture of the region. Some years later, he handed the estate and farm management to his sons, Alvaro and Rui Cardoso.

Quinta do Piloto Winery uses traditional methods such as amphorae aging vessels coupled with modern machines and techniques.

A Large Vineyard Production

Alvaro then started running the winery and, with almost 500 hectares of vineyards, became the second-largest wine producer in the region. Quinta do Piloto produces nearly 3 to 4 million liters of wine and sells it to the various companies. Later on, Filipe Cardoso, the current owner, felt a chance to create extraordinary wines using the family experience and extensive vineyards. The climate, rainfall, and soil in the region are perfect for vine cultivation.

Main Grown Varieties of the Winery

The main varieties of grapes grown at Quinta do Piloto Winery are Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional, Castelão, Alicante Bouchet, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Síria, Antão Vaz, Arinto, Moscatel Galego Roxo, and Moscatel de Setúbal. The best grapes go into producing their high-quality red, white, rosé, sparkling, dessert, and fortified wines. The winery, with its current project, started in 2008 and produced unique wines in small quantities. They use traditional methods using amphorae coupled with modern machines and techniques.
