Vinhos Norte Winery was set up in 1971 and produces wines in the heart of Vinho Verde. Presently, the third generation of the family runs the winery, and it is 100% Portuguese family business. Their first bottling line was set up in 1981, and they expanded many of their facilities in 1985. Vinhos Norte’s facilities reflect their mission of achieving the best quality and taste in their wines by using the natural resources of their region. Their winemaking ability, bottling lines, and state-of-the-art modern equipment make them a competitive and vital brand in the country’s wine business.
The third generation of the family at Vinhos Norte runs the winery, a fully Portuguese family business.
Antonio Carvalho and Domingos Carvalho are responsible for the work in the vineyards. They use organic methods to preserve the nature around them and the health of their vines. The rainfall, temperature, and soil are perfect in the region for the cultivation of vines. The main types of grapes grown in their vineyards include Loureiro, Arinto, Trajadura, and Alvarinho. The workers at Vinhos Norte pick the best grapes and use them to produce their world-class white wines.
At Vinhos Norte, there is a lot of importance to social responsibility in their winemaking. In 2005, they installed a water treatment plant to treat the water and keep it clean. The Spanish Ourense Business Confederation awarded them a Social Responsibility Award in 2006 for their work and environmental awareness. They even added Braille script to their wine labels for blind people and donated 10% of their Christmas wine sales to the charity in 2009.

We found the visit extremely informative and interesting. The staff were very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the winery, especially the wine tasting!
I cannot recommend this experience enough. Whilst it is no longer free the experience was certainly value for money, in fact it exceeded my high expectations and surpassed other wine tasting experiences I have had. The winery tour was carried out by the head wine maker (not usual) so knowledgeable. The host (one of the owners) then shared the history of the vineyards and winery. Followed by wine tastings accompanied by food. The host was very accommodating to our vegan diet providing delicious food cooked by her friend and mother. She shared her knowledge of wines and international markets with us and nothing was too much trouble. I can honestly recommend anyone to access this experience. You will not regret it.
