Nestled around a lake and dense forest, the Familie Rauen winery lies in the Thörnich region of Mosel. Enjoying fertile terroirs and microclimate, the vines are grown among the finest wine-growing areas in Germany, including Detzemer Maximiner Klosterlay, Detzemer Würzgarten, and Thörnicher Ritsch. At present, four generations take care of all the phases of wine production.
In 1980, Harald Rauen, along with his parents, started contributing his time and efforts in the family winemaking business. Initially owned by his father, the name of the was Weingut Eduard Rauen und Sohn. Under his father’s hold, the wines were sold in casks to local customers and wine shops in Germany.
Later in 1990, Harald and Maria Rauen took over the winery and started producing high-quality bottled wines. Due to the increase in popularity of wines, a new winery was established in Thörnich in 1997 under the name Weingut Familie Rauen. Today, they are renowned wine sellers in the USA, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, and Belgium.
Riesling being the prime variety, the owner cultivates various other kinds of grapes as well. It includes mineral-rich Rivaner, Pinot Noir, and Dornfelder. In some patches of Thörnicher Ritsch, the estate grows White Burgundy and Sauvignon Blanc. After careful selective harvesting, the berries are processed in the stainless steel tanks for fermentation. Along with red, white, and rose wines, Harald delivers top-rated sparkling wines, brandies, and liqueurs. They store their products in large barrels and tanks for aging and refining.
