Bodegas Javier San Pedro Ortega

The Family Winery Established since 2013

Javier San Pedro Ortega was born in Laguardia and is the fifth generation of a wine-maker family. He produces the wines with grapes from his own vineyards because San Pedro’s Family owns more than 100 hectares of vineyards in Laguardia. Though involved in the winery since the age of 5, Javier decided to undertake his own project in 2013.

Wine Appellations

The winery was based on two different ranges of wine. One was Cueva de Lobos which is defined by its modernity and aromas, while the other was, Viuda Negra, which tends to revive old vineyards in order to obtain the best quality of each one. Anahi, a semi-sweet white wine was created and produced to honor his mother.
These wine appellations are the specialty of Bodegas Javier San Pedro Ortega.

Vineyard located near the Beautiful Village

The vineyards of this winery are located in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, near to the Sierra de Cantabria Mountains, overlooking the beautiful views of the village of Laguardia. According to Javier, a great vineyard is the main element of a great wine. They have 100 hectares of vineyards with varied geological characteristics. They are located in the hills where the vines get the perfect amount of sun exposure and the terrain is poor, the combination of which gives vines and grapes of the utmost quality.
The dominant variety in the vineyard is the Tempranillo variety along with other varieties like Viura, White Tempranillo, Garnacha, Malvasía and Sauvignon Blanc.

At present this young project is an innovative winery with an enthusiastic team of young people who seek to surprise the wine lovers with wines that are different from the traditional Rioja wine. They produce a collection of red, white, rose and dessert wines with extraordinary richness and flavors.
