The soft wines of Hajos-Baja

The terrain of the Hajos-Baja region means that the wines that it produces are soft and low in acidity.

A variety of wines are produced in the region that include dry wines to late harvest and ice wines. Most of these wines are light, fruity and fresh with some having spicier aromas.

The characteristic terroir of the region is Pleistocene loess. This is a wind-blown sediment that has finer grains than sand and is slightly clayey. It also has a carbonate content that is well suited for viticulture. This unique terroir is reflected in the wines produced in Hajos Baja, which are produced in small volumes and are distinctively different from the wines from other Hungarian wine regions. They are known to be spicier and the red wines are extremely warm. These red wines are the most highly regarded wines of the region.
