How to Reach Wine Tasting Experiences in Catalonia

Wine tasting tours in Catalonia are easily accessible by different means of transportation.

By Air

Located in Barcelona, El Prat Airport (BCN) is the main airport in Catalonia, from where you can easily start your exploration of Catalonia. With its two terminals, it serves national, European and intercontinental flights to an infinite number of destinations.
Another useful hub to fly to, especially if you fly low coast, is the Girona Airport (GRO) is the second major airport in Catalonia. Although smaller in size, it is very useful to reach the beautiful Costa Brava and the northern part of Catalonia.

By Car

You can reach vineyard areas in Catalonia via bus or car. Buses connect the main cities in Catalonia with many national and international destinations. Bus stations in Barcelona are Estació de Sants and The Estació del Nord.
In every bus station, train station, or airport, you can rent a car
to be more flexible in visiting vineyeards. Normally, it takes 1.5h or 2h to reach the majority of wine experiences in Catalonia from Barcelona, as most of them are in the countryside.

By Train

The main train station in Barcelona is called Estació de Sants, but the most central one is Plaça de Catalunya (very well connected to local and regional destinations). Barcelona is very well connected by train with Spanish cities, such as Madrid, Valencia, and Zaragoza. Inside Catalonia, there are frequent trains from the other three main cities, Lleida, Tarragona and Girona.

The best season to visit Catalonia

There's never a bad time to take a wine tour to Catalonia, thanks to the wonderful Mediterranean climate you can enjoy most of what this incredible region has to offer all year round.

But Spring, for many, might be the perfect time to go for wine tastings and tours in Catalonia. The season is mildly warm and cities are way less crowded than in Summer. In the countryside, where the majority of wine tastings and tours in Catalonia are, the fields and hills come alive with blossoms and wild flowers. In summer, the days are longer and the nightlife really does last all night, and you can dine out on charming tasting areas, or by the sea, enjoying a glass of wine in the breeze coming off the waves.

What to taste in Catalonia?

Don't miss the chance to savor Cava, a superb Spanish/Catalan sparkling wine renowned on the Iberian Peninsula. Cava comes in white or rosé varieties, with sweetness levels ranging from Brut (very dry) to Seco (dry) to Dulce (sweet). White Cava is crafted from Macabeo, Parellada, and Xarello grapes, each contributing distinct characteristics. Expect Cava to captivate your senses with aromas of exotic fruits, citrus, bergamot, and delicate floral notes. On the other hand, Rosé Cava is created using Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, or Monastrell grapes, offering a delightful alternative for wine enthusiasts to explore.

Personal tour with winemaker The owner/winemaker gave us a personal tour and tasting. Because he speaks very little English, his 16 year old daughter helped as an interpreter. Wonderful, personal experience. Winery is very difficult to find with no signage so give yourself extra time to get there if you arrange a visit. We loved it. JDP
