What you can’t miss at wine tastings and tours in Coastal Region is a good glass of red wine.
Try the South-African born and raise Pinotage, an hybrid grape from Pinot Noir and Cinsault. Pinotage was invented because Pinot Noir is not suitable for the South African climate. Pinotage is a bold red wine, with high tannins and low acidity. It can be both a sweet and a sour wine but always has a sweet finish. The main aromas are those of red fruits, rooibos, red pepper, licorice and sweet tobacco.
English isn’t the only language spoken in South Africa, so instead of going for the classical “cheers!”, go for its Afrikaans version, Gesondheid!
