Great experience-EXCEPTIONAL value! We booked a tour of the Karp-Schreiber Winery for Wednesday May 25, 2022. We arrived at the winery and we’re greeted by Jobst Karp, the owner/winemaker and also our guide. The next couple of hours turned out to be a highlight of our 17 day European road trip. Jobst was very personable and patient with our questions as he guided us through the tasting. Of course the Reislings were very good, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Red Karp, a Regent varietal. Following the tasting, Jobst gave us a tour of his operation and cellars. Afterwards, he drove us…

What wine is Mosel known for?

The Mosel wine region in Germany is known for its production of high-quality Riesling wines. Riesling is the most prominent grape variety grown in the Mosel region and is highly regarded for its aromatic profile, exceptional balance of acidity and sweetness, and ability to express the unique terroir of the area. Mosel Rieslings are celebrated for their crispness, vibrant fruit flavors, floral aromas, and their ability to age gracefully.

What is the difference between Mosel and Rheingau?

The Mosel and Rheingau are both renowned wine regions in Germany, but they differ in terms of geography, climate, and wine styles. The Mosel region is characterized by steep slopes along the Mosel River, producing primarily Riesling wines known for their elegance, high acidity, and mineral-driven flavors. The Rheingau region, situated along the Rhine River, has a warmer climate and diverse soils, producing a range of wines including Riesling as well as notable examples of Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). Rheingau Rieslings are often fuller-bodied with a balance of fruitiness and acidity.

What Flavours are in Mosel Riesling?

Mosel Riesling wines typically exhibit flavors of citrus fruits like lemon and lime, along with ripe stone fruits such as peach and apricot. They may also feature notes of green apple, floral undertones like white flowers, and a distinctive mineral character often described as slate or wet stone. These flavors combine to create the refreshing, aromatic, and complex profile for which Mosel Rieslings are known.
