The best season to experience wine tastings and tours in Peloponnese

There is never a bad moment to experience wine tastings and tours in Peloponnese but if we have to decide, the best period is probably spring. In this season temperatures are still not too high but warmer compared to other parts of Europe so you can still enjoy very sunny and hot days on the coast and mild temperatures in the inland.
Autumn is another great season to go for wine tastings and tours in Peloponnese because it’s harvesting season, both for grapes and for olives.

What to do in Peloponnese?

Peloponnese is a fascinating region, full of history and beautiful archaeological sites.
Our suggestions are:

  • Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, is an ancient theatre that dates back to 330-340 BC. It was built to receive performances in honor of Asclepius, the God of Medicine.
  • Olympia, the site where the Olympic Torch is lit before it starts its tour around the world to reach the location of the next Olympic Games.
  • Diros Cave is a complex of underground caves. The vast caverns are 15 km large, giving the tourist a 1,5 km illuminated route, stretched through several waterways.

What to taste in Peloponnese?

When you go for wine tastings and tours in Peloponnese, you can't miss tasting:

  • Moschofilero white wine. This wine is typical of central Peloponnese and it has a wide range of aromas and characteristics. The main notes are those of melon, pink grapefruit, lemon, and almonds. Dryness and body can change depending on the ageing period sometimes can be more than 10 years.
  • Agiorgitiko red wine. A fruity, Merlot-like wine that is very popular in Nemea district, close to the city of Corinto. Its main aromas are those of red and black fruits, plum, and spices such as oregano.

What to expect from wine tastings and tours in Peloponnese?

Wine tastings and tours in Peloponnese are a great way to learn about winemaking techniques in this historical wine region of Greece. Before the real wine tasting experience, you will be accompanied by winemakers around the estate for a visit to the cellar room, the ageing room and in some cases you will get to taste wine directly from the ageing barrels.
Then, as you discover the whole background of wine production in Peloponnese, you will get to sit in the tasting room to have some wine paired with amazing Greek food, such as cheese, olives and honey.

Peloponnesus day trip Took a day away from Athens and what a great idea. First stop was Giannicos in Korinthia. Micheal, the owner met us and gave our family of five a great experience. Loved the wine and bought some for the trip. Went on to stay in Napflio which is a precious little town. Highly recommended
