The busiest month for tourism in Rheinhessen, Germany is February, followed by March and August. Those willing to go for wine tastings and tours in Rheinhessen at these times will likely find it the least expensive month. Apart from wine, the Rheinhessen region offers many choices for amazing vacations.
Mainz is the best place to start and to have as a starting point for three major reasons: It was good enough for the Romans, a city steeped in history and culture, it’s the Great Wine Capital of Germany and has an abundance of farm to table food and because the city knows how to party!
Worms is the city where Lutheranism started. There are lots of beautiful sights to discover in Worms: the Romanesque Cathedral, Europe’s oldest Jewish cemetery, the synagogue in the old town.
Finish your tour of Rheinhessen with a visit to Alzey, named for the fiddler in the legend “Song of the Nibelung”. Alzey has everything you expect from an ancient German village, including its own fish market, streets of perfectly preserved half-timbered houses, and a Renaissance-era town hall!
Here are some wine suggestions you should taste in Rheinhessen:
Silvaner, when it is matured it gets a rich flavor. It’s a quite creamy grape but because it’s grown in limestone ground you do have a mineral taste.
Dry Riesling with pronounced acidity and aromas of citrus fruits and smoke-tinged minerality, typically more "masculine" than its equivalent from the Mosel.
Dornfelder, this unique wine is almost jet-black, with a dense and tart palate showing flavors of berry and blackberry jam, dry and easy to drink.
The magnificent views from their vineyards in Rheinhessen can leave the visitor speechless, but this is only one of the too many experiences a wine lover can enjoy. A journey through wine experience in Rheinhessen starting from a guided tour through the vineyards and continuing in the cellars by the winemakers will make you feel the passion and the whole winemaking process from the soil all the way to bottling.
A most enjoyable visitQuiet and tranquil surroundings. Five nice wines presented. The Signature Riesling was superb. A tour of the winery followed. A most excellent visit.
A truly exceptional winetasting! We felt very welcomed at the W.E.Frank winery. The owner offered us a lovely journey to the making of wine through tasting and telling. We tasted a large variety of wines, both white and sparkling. We were fascinated by how the taste of the same grape varies so widely due to choice of wineyard and production. We got to taste wine from both the barrels and bottled selected gems and all of them wonderful! We were truly honored to participate in such a personalized tasting and send all the best to the owner Wolfgang!
Fantastic experienceThe tasting was great, the passion driving the vintners is clear and contagious. The wines are also excellent. We cannot recommend this more!
