Producing Noble Wines in the Seventeenth-Century Farmhouse – Cascina Principe-Vacca
Originated in 1683, the Cascina Principe was the property of Prince of Cisterna d’Asti. Even then, the cellar was well-known for producing four ancient wines of Neive, namely Nebbiolo, Moscato, Barbera, and Dolcetto. In the 1800s, the farm was acquired by Countess de Maria di Neive. Later in 1894, two Vacca brothers, Giovanni and Luigi, bought the estate and its surrounding vineyards. Today, boasting a century of traditional winemaking history, the Vacca family works with great passion at Principe-Vacca Winery.
More Focus on Quality & Lesser on Quantity
Surrounded by striking landscapes, two vineyard plots, Vigna dell’Angelo and Vignot cover an area of 13 hectares. One-third of the vineyard region surrounds Cascina Principe-Vacca, whereas two-thirds are nestled in a territory adjacent to the central core. On these two parcels, the Vacca family grows Nebbiolo da Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato, Arneis, Chardonnay, and a small amount of Grignolino and Merlot.
A Modern Wine Cellar with a Historical Touch
In the mid 20th century, Luigi’s son Mario renovated the ancient cellar, making a place that refects old traditions and innovative practices. Later, Giuseppe also followed in his father’s footsteps, brought state-of-the-art technologies to the cellar, and purchased more vineyards. Today, the wine cellar is entirely advanced, thanks to the commitment of the fourth-generation owners, Federico (Agronomist) and Stefano (Enologist).
