A still young history and great wines
When the owner decided to move to the country, they spent months searching for the perfect place to grow grapes- a site with the right soil composition, abundant air flow, superior soil drainage and ideal sun exposure and were spell bounded to discover this location. They took care of the vineyards in time for their 2010 spring planting, they grew two blocks of vines close to the winery. One block on the southern facing slope, and another one on the eastern facing slope. To the south are the red varieties- Cabernet Franc and Syrah. To the east are the white varieties- Chardonnay and Viognier.
Since their first harvest in 2012, their wines have won several awards, most notably in 2016 Cabernet Franc being awarded “Best in Show” at the 2018 Maryland Governor’s Cup
The winery works in harmony with nature
Higher elevation and the perfect location at the foothills of the Catoctin Mountains provides the vineyard with a constant breeze from Owen’s Gap – day and night. This breeze helps to keep the vines well ventilated, preventing meld formation on the leaves and significantly reducing need for fungicide spraying.
The entire vineyard crew of Catoctin Breeze winery has developed a special relationship with the land by diligently caring for every single one of their 9000 vines. The pride that they take in their work can be witnessed as one passes through the well-manicured vines, or it can be experienced in the glass.
