The Birth of Domaine Roland Schmitt
The Schmitt Family is running the vineyard in Bergbieten, a small village nestled between Molsheim and Marlenheim since the 17th century. In his early twenties, Roland Schmitt took over the estate along with his wife, Anne-Marie. Together they replanted the vineyards and steadily became producers of excellent German styled wine in nearby areas and all over Europe.
The Legacy of the Schmitt Family
The winemakers of Domaine Roland Schmitt vinify the wines in a very traditional style with a unique fermentation in stainless steel vats. The combination of ripe fruit and exceptional terroir produces wines with remarkable character and taste. In 1993, after the death of Roland, his wife took over the entire estate with the help of a trustd employee and her teenage sons. Now, the two grown sons, Julien and Bruno, help Anne-Marie to make high quality wines. They use organic farming techniques both in the vineyard and the winery. All top restaurants in Alsace serve the wines of Domaine Roland Schmitt to their guests.
