Giffords Hall Vineyard, High-Quality Wine Production in the Suffolk Region

Giffords Hall Vineyard is a family-owned winery with vineyards planted on an old glacial riverbed in Suffolk near Long Melford. The sandy and clay soil produces quality grapes, high in natural sugars and acids, that lend themselves particularly well to both sparkling and dry aromatic still wines. Their wines have a delicate floral character very typical of the region. Their vines’ condition is excellent because of the hard work of the professional team working at the winery.

90% of Giffords Hall Vineyard’s are PDO, or PGI classified and single estate, they produce three single varietal wines.

Sustainable Viticulture at the Winery

The winery’s vineyards are located in one of the region’s best areas and were planted almost 25 years ago. The region’s unique microclimate, along with favorable soil, temperature, and rainfall, makes the region perfect for vine cultivation. The workers use organic methods that help to protect the natural surroundings and the health of their vineyards. The main grape varieties grown are Bacchus, Pinot Noir, Reichensteiner, Rondo, Pinot Blanc, and Madeleine Angevine.

The Waitrose and National English Wine Trophies

Giffords Hall Vineyards started a new planting program, where 3000 Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir vines were harvested for the first time, and the wines were released in 2018. Their modern vintages are aging in the new French oak barrels. Their wines have won many awards, including the Waitrose Trophy for best rosé wine and National English Wine Trophy for their Bacchus.
