La Perla di Marco Triacca winery: in Lombardy wine region
La Perla di Marco Triacca is a winery located in Valtellina, an alpine valley in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. It was established in 2009 at Valgella – Tresenda di Teglio by Marco Triacca. They began with a 1.5-hectare vineyard panted exclusively with the Nebbiolo variety. Today, they have expanded to 3.3 hectares and added Pignola vines, an indigenous red-skinned variety which is processed to produce sparkling wine.
A unique wine cultivation system
La Perla di Marco Triacca’s vineyards at Valgella – Tresenda di Teglio are situated in some of the most famous vine covered hillsides in the Sondrio Province of the Lombardy region. Valtellina is located in the Rhaetian Alps, about 100 kilometers from Milan and is an ideal mountainous wine region. The long valley runs east-west along the course of the Adda river and has typical typically alluvial soil. The vineyards are generally planted between 230 and 765 meters in altitude. This presents challenges to grape harvesting, which La Perla di Marco Triacca winery met with innovation.
They were the first vineyard in Valtellina to adopt girapoggio planting pattern which enables partial mechanization in the vineyard
Their unique vine cultivation system maximizes sun exposure and improves the quality of grapes produced.
