An Organic Winery Immersed in the Breath-Taking Region
Monte da Casteleja is a biodynamic winery located a short drive away from the beautiful town of Lagos in western Algarve. The estate delivers high-quality organic wines; amongst them is a full-bodied ‘orange wine,’ paired with white and rose wines. Being the only grower of rare Alfrocheiro in the Dão region, Monte da Casteleja is a well-known producer of luscious red wines.
Situated on a Site Where Roman Castle was Built
Initially bought by the grandfather in 1952, Monte da Casteleja has more than five decades of family history, indulged in different vocations. Today, Guillaume Abel Luís Leroux handles the winery’s operation. In 2000, he took command from his father and dedicated himself to the production of vine cultivation. His vision of recreating Single Estate Vineyards by merging innovation with ancient winemaking techniques is in the making these days.
Organic Grape Production Since 2008
Guillaume and wife Maria Leroux manage all the viticulture activities in the vineyards, where the couple grows a broad line of grapes. The three-hectare territory surrounding the winery is perfect for the cultivation of Bastardo, Alfrocheiro, Malvasia Fina, Moscatel, and Sousão, together with some parcels of unique Arinto, Perrum, and Tinto Cão. Harvesting is done manually, followed by shifting of grapes to the cellar in the 15kg boxes.
