Montioni Winery, Quality Winemaking for Four Generations

Montioni Winery was established in 1972 by Adeodato Montioni in Montefalco, a small city in the Perugia province. The town is located in the center of three valleys and is called “Umbria Banister.” The fourth generation of the family currently runs the winery. The region has a beautiful landscape with olive groves, grain crops, and a char rural life. The main aim of the winery is to respect nature and traditions to produce the best quality products. Recently the winery has started using new and innovative methods along with modern equipment.

The owners of Montioni Winery care greatly about their region and use sustainable methods to preserve the land and terroir.

The Ideal Terroir Surrounding Montioni Winery

The vineyards of Montioni Winery are located in a small village, Pietrauta. There, the sunshine hours and the soil are ideal for the growth and cultivation of vines. The growers use the spurred cordon technique that makes sure there is a low to medium production, and the quality is very high. The main varieties of grapes that grow here are Merlot, Sangiovese, Grechetto, and Sagrantino that go into producing their best red wines.

The best grapes are sent to the winery for further processing. After pressing the grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperature. The wine maturation takes place in 225 liters of wooden barrels. The flagship products of the winery are the Montefalco Rosso and the Sagrantino. The winery also produces extra virgin olive oil from the olive trees growing on the estate.
