The Winery

Olivi – Le Buche is a wine producer on the south of Tuscany. It was established in 2002 by Giuseppe Olivi and his son Riccardo. The Winery, under the guidance of Andrea Paoletti, a well-known winemaker (already a consultant for Ornellaia, Caiarossa, I Veroni, Amepeleia and others) makes an assortment of wines focused largely on Bordeaux blends (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot). The wide range of wines includes also 3 different Protected Designation of Origin:  Toscana IGT for the most part of the wines  2 Orcia Doc for a red wine and a white wine called Coreno (Trebbiano and Malvasia)  1 Chianti Superiore (Colli senesi).

The Estate

The estate is located in a very suited land to the production of wine. There were already large vineyards (called “Vignone”) as they appeared on the ancient maps of Cadastre Leopold of 1826. The wine estate “Le Buche” has 27 hectares of vineyards, including 4 hectares of 60 years old vines with Trebbiano, Malvasia, and Sangiovese. Vineyards are located in strategic areas on top of the hills where they can enjoy perfect climate conditions.

Soils are very different one to the other from the clay, silty-clay soils of the red-grape varieties to the gravel soils for the white ones. The Winery, thanks also to Florence University rediscoveries, produces 2005 a rare native Tuscany grape variety called Pugnitello. The Pugnitello grapes give a wine an intense red color with purple notes, good structure, and soft tannins. It is interesting both as mono-varietal wine as in a blend giving special features to the aging of the wine. The flagship wine is Le Buche Orcia Doc, a blend of Sangiovese and mostly Cabernet sauvignon. Proportions of each variety change depending on the conditions of the vintage. A great wine selection is “I PURI” which is usually a limited-edition selection of a mono-varietal wine made only in the best years. Memento, Tempore, and a really good selection of whites, rosé and sparkling rosé wines complete the line-up of Olivi- Le Buche Winery.
