Podere L’Aja Produces Organic Wines of Territorial Nature
Flanked by magnificent Chianti Classico hills, L’Aja is an agricultural winery nestled in the heart of the medieval Chianti League, around 700 meters away from the prized village Radda. The winery structure is located in the center of edifices and wine cellars, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and an orchard, giving a village-like essence.
Passion and Hardwork of Two Milanese Brothers
In 1979, Angelo and Ugo Contrino acquired Podere L’Aja Winery. Engineers by profession, the brothers were stunned by the extraordinary charms of Chianti Classico and undertook a project. When they bought the company, it had only edifices and vineyards. Over the years, the winery has grown to its full potential with a modern cellar, renovated edifices, and state-of-the-art equipment. However, the brothers also have a company of Engineering and Architecture in Milan to manage. Thus, the wine production activities are carefully handled by cousins Marco and Roberta Contrino and other local partners.
Producing 70,000 bottles of Organic Wine
Currently, Podere L’Aja owns twelve hectares of vineyards within the five-kilometer radius of the winery building, mostly planted with top-class Sangiovese. Valerio Marconi takes care of everything in the vineyards and the cellar, accompanied by Natale Grossi and Federico Staderini. The grapes are handpicked, followed by the manual selection of the best bunches for fermentation in the vats. For significant aging and refining, the Contrino family uses Slavonia oak barrels and French barriques and tonneaux. The company has two cellars, a modern one for the first phase of winemaking and a traditional one for maturation and bottling.
