The estate where low yields of the vineyards are fermented naturally to produce the concentrated and fruity wines
Winery with old family-owned vineyards
VOLS is a small winery that has old family-owned vineyards on the south-facing slopes in Ayl and Wiltingen, the best wine villages on the Saar river in Germany. The winemaker Helmut Plunien has experimented in these vineyards for several years in order to produce the best wines from mostly ungrafted vines. For centuries, the fruity and concentrated wines from the Saar river have been served and enjoyed worldwide and are sold in the traditionally dark and slender bottles.
Philosophy of their winemaking
The philosophy of winemaking followed in this estate is simple. They believe that the world’s best wines can be produced only from the best fruit from best vineyard sites and with utmost dedication.
The highly concentrated musts are a result of low per hectare yields of old vineyards. The fermentation is dependent on the natural yeasts and careful vinification is responsible for the uniqueness and longevity of the wines. Their two-decades-long experience as well as results from several conversations with wine experts, aficionados and famous winemakers from all over the world is seen in their winery and the wines they make.
Wine Classifications
The original fruity and clear style of Saar wines come from the grapes thar are harvested late at their optimal stage of ripeness. The wines of several wine classifications are crafted in VOLS like Wilingen Kupp, Wiltingen Schlangengraben, VOLS, Ayl Kupp, and Ayl Schonfels.
The grape varieties produced in the vineyards of this winery are namely Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir. These varieties are used to produce different types of wines like red, white, rose, sparkling, and dessert wines.
