Weingut Kriechel: A Family Tradition in Ahr Valley
Weingut Kriechel stands as the largest private family wine estate in the Ahr Valley, boasting over 60 years of rich history. Founded in 1969 by Peter Kriechel, the winery was passed down to his sons, Ernst and Hermann. As the winery expanded, it relocated from Marienthal to Ahrweiler in the 1970s. Today, the third generation manages the estate, overseeing both vineyard and cellar operations. Notably, they utilize local Ahr oak for their barrels, which are meticulously crafted by cellar master Kufer Hosch. With over 4 hectares dedicated to Frühburgunder vines, Weingut Kriechel is the world’s largest producer of this unique grape variety, continuing a family tradition of excellence in winemaking.
Decades of Expertise in Sustainable Winemaking
The estate encompasses around 30 hectares of vineyards situated on the steep slopes of the Ahr Valley, a landscape shaped by generations of cultivation. The Kriechel family prioritizes environmentally friendly practices, avoiding chemical fertilizers and pesticides to preserve the natural flavors of their grapes. All grapes are handpicked and gently processed in the cellar. The vineyard is home to a variety of grapes, including Spätburgunder, Frühburgunder, Grau-Weißburgunder, Domina, Regent, Kerner, and Riesling. Only the finest grapes are selected to create their award-winning range of red, white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert wines. Their commitment to quality has earned them the prestigious Deutscher Rotweinpreis award in 2013, 2016, and 2019.
