- Our journey begins with an immersive experience in the famous red wine region of Dealu Mare. This region, often referred to as the 'Tuscany of Romania,' is among the oldest and most distinguished wine-growing areas in the country. Indeed it is situated on the same latitude as Northern Italy, but tourism is still at the very at the very beginning. Dealu Mare has an extension of about 60-70 km between Valea Calugareasca (near Ploiesti) and Merei/Vernesti (near Buzau), covering the two counties Buzau and Prahova. Dealu Mare offers more than 6.000 years of settlement history, a Mediterranean climate from April to October and excellent wines from sunny southward hills.
- In recent years, the wines of Dealu Mare have consistently received recognition at international wine competitions. During this weekend cycling excursion, you'll have the opportunity to explore several undiscovered wineries and visit beautiful historical and cultural sites in the Dealu Mare region.
Day 1 - Departure to Dealu Mare wine area (54miles/80 km from Bucharest)
Brief transfer to Crama 1777 (old Romanian wine museum) or Bellu Manor (a small representation of Neo Romanian architecture) marks the starting point for a 35-40 km off-and-on-road adventure through the wine country. Along the way, we'll pause for a tasting session at Davino or SERVE wineries in Ceptura. The cycling tour will continue to Apogeum Winery, where the renowned local red wine variety, Fetească Neagră, is aged in clay amphoras. Here, you'll indulge in a delightful wine tasting and pairing experience, uncovering the stories behind Apogeum Manor, once the residence of Nicolae, brother of the Romanian King Carol II and nephew of the last Romanian King, Mihai 1st.
Overnight in Tohani area
Bike tour: 35-40 km off and on road biking, 500-600 m elevation
Activities: wine tasting at SERVE boutique winery (or similar) and Apogeum winery
Meals: dinner
Day 2 – Bike&Wine day in Tohani wine area
Embark on a fresh Bike&Wine adventure today as we pedal through the scenic vineyards of Budureasca, Licorna, and Tohani wineries, reaching Fintesti village for a tasting experience at Lacerta Winery. Upon returning to Tohani, we'll conclude our journey with a brief visit to Mierla Alba, followed by a delightful barbecue and wine tasting hosted by the wonderful team at Licorna Winery. In the evening return to Bucharest.
