The Story of Crosskeys

It all began from a thick forest, on the rolling hills which are now known as the cross key vineyards. After crossing the fence which divided the land from the road, the vision of the vineyard come to life. A few months after purchasing the land, during a family picnic to celebrate new beginnings with a bottle of Pinot Noir, a realization came upon them. Of the endless possibilities, this land had to offer not too long after which, in 2001 the first vines were planted. After many years of hard work, passion, hope, and most importantly perseverance breathed life into the dream; opening the doors to their own vineyard. In May of 2008, they opened the doors to the tasting room and offered the first vintage of 2006, 100% estate-grown Virginia wine from the once forgotten land.

Old Cross Keys Tavern

Aside from the impressive beauty of the land, the old Cross Keys Tavern was and still is one of the biggest inspirations. The old Tavern served as a town center for the community in the early to the mid-19th century. Friends and family gathered after long days and could unwind and enjoy the pure essence the valley has to offer. However, on June 8th of 1862, the small village was engulfed by Union and Confederate troops. The old Tavern became a place of healing as wounded soldiers were carried off after the infamous battle of Cross Keys. since then, they have the dream of rebuilding what the old Cross Keys Tavern offered a century and a half ago; a place of relaxation and gathering for visitors and the locals of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.

The two gold-crossed keys are an old symbol of hospitality, excellence, and a place of prestige. The keys embody their goal of producing exquisite wines, delicious food, fabulous events, but most of all they are a daily reminder that they are here to provide an excellent experience for every guest that walks through the doors.

The experience was good, great customer service, wine was amazing, everything came out great! BUT I came home and had the worst stomach bug after eating there. I couldn’t be 2 feet away from a toilet bc I was either throwing up or using the bathroom. It hit all of us that ate there. I’m not sure what happened but other than that it was a good experience 😂 (I know it was from them because we ate at home the whole day except when coming here)

The Saturday (02/15/25) Brunch experience was incredible! The Brunch Sampler and the Shrimp and Grits were insane, paired with the mimosas made for the perfect Valentine’s Day Weekend. The Wine & Chocolate pairing event was an amazing way to experiment and taste new flavor pairings. If you get the chance to have Meredith as your server, you’re in for a treat because she made sure to continually check in and make sure everything came out perfectly. Definitely look forward to visiting a lot more!

I spent the day here with my extended family (a group of 14), and every moment was absolutely incredible! We enjoyed a wine tour, a tasting, and a fantastic lunch at the bistro. Without a doubt, the bistro served the best food we had during our entire stay in Virginia. Reagan led our tour and wine tasting, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide—she was incredibly sweet, knowledgeable, and made the experience unforgettable. Thank you for an amazing time!

Absolutely 5 stars! Our visit to CrossKeys Vineyard in Mount Crawford, VA was an unforgettable experience. We enjoyed a fantastic meal – the shrimp and grits were perfectly seasoned, and the roasted chicken with sweet potato was flavorful and tender. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, complemented by stunning views of the mountains that made our meal even more special. A huge shout-out to Babak, Saam, and the entire waiting team for their impeccable service and attention to detail; Leanne, in particular, was a wonderful waitress who made our experience even more delightful. Highly recommend for a wonderful dining experience with breathtaking scenery!

Absolutely breathtaking vineyard! We made a stop here on our road trip and it was the best stop ever. The drive into the winery is captivating and the landscape is enormous! On our evening there weren’t many people there so it was nice and quiet and peaceful. Absolutely love the location. I really enjoyed the peach wine, it had just enough sweetness for me. My skirt steak was good but I really loved my sisters burger. I will definitely be back to cross keys!
