If you're a tourist who appreciates an off-the-beaten-path-vibe, this is the place for your Madeira wine experience! It's up the hill from the touristy places, quieter and really friendly. We did a tour with Maria, which was so informative, and then shared the tasting that had 6 different styles from 5-39 years old. We were left alone to taste so we didn't feel rushed, took lots of notes and pictures, admired the murals painted by the famous artist Max Romer, and just relax. Plus they give you a taste of honey cake and ginger cookies from Riberia Seco, which were delicious! Highly recommend!

Very nice visit of very high quality

We popped in for a tasting of six Tinta Negra wines (for €22). It's a nice, clean space, and the person guiding our tasting was helpful.

We booked a tour and tasting at the winery using their website. Nice and simple and we went for the gold tour at €35 for the both of us. For November the weather was very warm and sunny so we were pretty hot by the time we had walked there. The young woman who greeted us also carried out the tour and she made sure we had a refreshing glass of water and somewhere to sit while we waited. Borges is very family oriented with a relatively small team. The building is packed with history and we found the talk and tour fascinating. After the tour we were able to taste and enjoy three very good glasses of quality Madeiran wine along with some delicious biscuits and cakes. Excellent tour and great value. You definitely do not need to be an expert on wine to enjoy this. Highly recommend.

Good Madeira wines and affordable prices, amazing staff

We were there for a wine tasting, were given a very friendly welcome and the nice lady helped us choose the wine tasting package. She then let us taste in peace. All in all, TOP, even the short explanations of the different types of wine were informative. Very different flavors and something for everyone.

A small, fine but very important winery on Madeira with a long history. Unfortunately, there are hardly any vintage wines officially available to buy here. The focus here is more on 3-10 year old wines, even if great vintages are produced here in small numbers. The winery itself is run in a very traditional way by women - they are sisters.

Went for the tour at HM Borges . Very informative. Good history of how they started the wine process in Madeira. Melissa was very good . I'm not actually a lover of Madeiran wine , but I really enjoyed the tour and tasting.

Cellar more formal and austere than the neighboring ones. Good quality products, well explained. Tastings are paid but with a "large" purchase we were partially given away.

I did a wine tasting and a tour of HMBorgea with Engineer João Pereira and I was extremely well attended to. Very well informed about the company I work for and the wines it produces. He clarified all my doubts and at the end he served me a beautiful tasting of various wines that the company produces. I loved it and recommend it ☺️

Very good reception at 12:15, 15 minutes before the lunch closing. Explanation in English and a little in French for the 4 types of wine and grape varieties between 5 years and 10 years, depending on the meal. Correct prices.
