Ruby Bay Vineyard: Crafting Unique Vineyard Wines

Founded in 2002 by Andrew Tamplin, a former airline captain, Ruby Bay Vineyard is nestled in the stunning Nelson region of New Zealand. After an extensive search for the ideal vineyard location, Andrew discovered a 25-acre coastal block that benefits from the highest sunshine hours in the country. This picturesque setting, with breathtaking sea and mountain views, is perfect for producing exceptional wines that reflect the unique character of the land.

Today, after 19 years and the planting of 12,000 vines, Ruby Bay Vineyard produces a variety of wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Riesling. The first small vintages were released in 2006, marking the beginning of a remarkable winemaking journey.

Traditional Winemaking Inspired by France

Ruby Bay Vineyard benefits from Nelson’s maritime climate, gently rolling hills, and rich Moutere clay soil, which contribute to the production of high-quality grapes. The winery focuses on crafting premium wines exclusively from its single vineyard, resulting in wines with intense flavors and perfect balance. Notably, Ruby Bay Vineyard is among the few in Nelson to produce méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines, honoring French winemaking techniques.
