Vinsobres is a unique wine district in the Rhone Valley and is recognized as one of France's off-the-beaten-path attractions. Despite the fact that this magnificent wine area has a long history and has produced some of the best wines in France, its size has remained relatively limited. This breathtaking region is home to over 30 estates and three big cooperative cellars producing exceptional wines produced from Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre. Vinsobres was formerly a dense olive plantation that was turned to vines following a terrible frost in 1956. The vineyards occupy 1385 hectares of this beautiful location producing around 15,000 hectoliters of wine.

History of the Vinsobres wine region
The bishop of Vaison bestowed the motto "Sober wine, Drink it Soberly" to Vinsobres in 1633, characterizing the wines as balanced and fragrant. The region's wine culture extends back to ancient times. Olive orchards were originally prevalent in the region that was decimated by the Frost of 1956. Farmers began replacing their olive groves with vines, which enlarged the area's wine business. The Vinsobres branded their wines under Cotes du Rhone villages prior to attaining AOC classification. On February 17, 2006, the area was officially given AOC designation.
The terroir and geography of the Vinsobres wine region
Vinsobres has a Mediterranean climate, which is characteristic of the southern Rhone area, with hot summers and colder winters. Mistral winds from the northern alpine area are common in the area. The majority of the region's vineyards are located on a limestone ridge that runs approximately 10 kilometers from Venterol to Visan. These slopes may reach a height of 500 meters above sea level. The region has a variety of soil types due to its varied topography, which ranges from hilly to plains. The area around the Aygues River is largely made up of steep hills with alluvial soil. The upper portion, extending from 230 to 250 meters in elevation, is primarily sand and marl with some marine and continental influences.
Popular grape varieties from the Vinsobres wine region
Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre are the most prominent grape varietals in the Vinsobres wine area. Red wines have a deep red hue and a strong aromatic character with spicy undertones. These wines have a high age potential, which accentuates the silkiness of the tannins. The red wines must have a minimum of 50% Grenache and 25% Syrah or Mourvedre content. The Syrah grown in the region has distinct characteristics that contribute to the wines' freshness and spiciness.
Food to pair with Vinsobres wine
Lambchop
Lambchop is a popular meal eaten all around the world. The two most common types of cuts used to produce this delectable meal are loin and rib chops that are at least one inch thick. The beef is marinated in simple spice for a day before cooking. The meat is pan-seared on both sides until browned before being baked for a few hours. The end result is tender and juicy meat that can be eaten plain or with some sauce on top. Lamb chops are typically served in pieces with mashed potatoes on the side. The game flavor in this chop pairs beautifully with Vinsobres red wines.
Ribeye steak
The ribeye is a boneless rib piece that is soft and delicious. It comes from the delicately handled upper rib cage area and contains marbled fat, which adds taste and speed to cooking. One of the best steaks for pan-searing is rib eye, which brings out its robust, exquisite flavor.
A rib-eye steak can be served with a rich and creamy béarnaise sauce and certain potato side dishes. Pair with your preferred red Vinsobres.
Pasta al Pomodoro
Pasta al Pomodoro is a traditional Italian meal that is bursting with flavor from fresh tomatoes and basil. It is possibly the most famous Italian cuisine, composed of basic pasta and tomatoes that taste excellent and are quite simple to prepare. Fresh tomatoes, olive oil, salt, fresh garlic, and fresh basil are combined to make Pomodoro sauce. Simply twirl the spaghetti in the sauce and simmer for a few minutes. Finally, grated Parmesan cheese is sprinkled on top of the pasta, completing this hearty dish.
