The La Frassina- a Beautiful Winery with Rich History
The La Frassina winery and estate is situated in the wonderful Veneto wine region of Italy. La Frassina has a very long and rich history, which extends back to 1939 when the land was reclaimed by the grandfather of the family owning the estate. The estate lies on the edge of the Zignago Valley where the soils are alluvial (calcareous clay), of average texture and with aggregations of calcium carbonate.
The soils are highly praised for the character and aroma that they add to the wines.
The wine production at La Frassina takes place in the area of Veneto that is closest to the Caorle Lagoon, 7km from the side of the lagoon that reaches the ocean. The estate is situated 2.5 meters below sea level, which makes it extremely unique.
Vineyard and Their Care
The wine makers at La Frassina believe that wine is born in the vineyard and for this reason much care and attention is paid to the vine. The vines are planted a good planting density in order to achieve a low grape yield per plant. During the process of working the soil of the vineyard and tending to the vines, all measures that might modify their natural character are limited. The character of the vine is left to change from year to year according to the natural environment and the season.
Different Grape Varieties
The grape varietals that are grown at La Frassina winery are Chardonnay, Tai Friulano, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Refosco dal Peduncolo rosso which are used to produce a range of red, white and rose Le Frassina wines. These wines are classified under the DOC Venezia, DOC Lison and the DOC Lison Pramaggiore.
