The guided tour begins in our educational vineyard, where we introduce you to the main grape varieties we use in our wines. We then move on to the modern winery, which comprises 44 stainless steel vats, and the archaeology room, where we display all the archaeological finds discovered at Herdade do Monte da Ribeira, including a menhir standing almost 5 metres tall. We finish at the magnificent Adega dos Potes, a unique cellar dating from 1878, where we preserve and use some of the 114 clay amphorae for the production of our most special wines.

After the tour, we offer the option of the José de Sousa wine tasting (3 red wines that combine the oak from barrel ageing with the mineral and earthy notes of the clay pot). This option includes a tasting of regional products (cheese, sausages, Alentejo bread and olive oil).

You can enjoy this tasting in the cosy tasting room or outdoors, depending on the weather.

This experience is perfect for both wine lovers and families, making it a memorable outing in the heart of the Alentejo.

I loved it, I would like to highlight the guide, she made me feel at home, she was able to overcome the language barrier thanks to her passion.

Excellent experience due to the uniqueness of the fermentation process in clay amphorae (talhas). I recommend it if you visit the Monsaraz area in Alentejo. Sofia's kindness and knowledge during the guided tour and her effort to speak easy-to-understand Portuguese.

Clay Pot Wines

So interesting to learn and taste wines still made in the old world style in clay pots!

We went with a small group of friends and family, visiting wineries in the region from a base in Evora. This place specializes in classic wines aged in clay amphora, seriously Old School. The tour of the winery was very nice and fun, and tasting after was great. We all enjoyed trying the wines and the people were sincerely welcoming and hospitable.

Visitors are here in Spain, at 5 p.m. A guia Lígia que nos acolheu, fez uma excelente apresentação da dega José de Sousa. This is the adquirida of the group José Maria Fonseca in 1986. Para além da explicação de todo or processo de produção dos vinhos jovens brancos e tintos, também fomos elucidados dos different processesos de envelhecimento do vinho em talha e na Barricas de Carvalho American and French. It is possible to observe the ceramic material and then produce wine from the material. No final proof of 3 young wines Monte da Ribeira (branco e tinto) and José de Sousa (tinto com envelhecimento em talha). Recommend.
