At Schmitges Winery, the secret to their exceptional Riesling lies in the slate-rich soil that nurtures their vines. This dark, mineral-packed earth is a vital part of the winery's terroir, contributing to the wine's intense flavor and refreshing character. Schmitges produces a variety of Rieslings, including both estate and village wines sourced from their traditional vineyards, which showcase a diverse range of soil profiles. Their premium single estate Rieslings come from the renowned Erdener Treppchen and Erdener Prälat vineyards, known for their steep slopes and over 100-year-old vines that dig deep into the mountainside. Visitors can expect a unique tasting experience that highlights the distinct qualities of these exceptional wines. Don't miss the chance to learn about the winemaking process and the importance of terroir in creating wines that are both flavorful and memorable.

Very nice tasting room in Erden. Parking right out front and a small outdoor seating area across the street that you could enjoy a glass of wine.

Incredibly good and professional advice! Mr. Schmitges took a lot of time to present the individual wines to us and also to tell us a little bit of history about the individual locations. The wines were very balanced and all of them are recommended. I would definitely recommend buying the Riesling Kabinett from the red slate!

We were there yesterday for a little wine tasting. It was great. After the store opened, we were warmly welcomed and learned a lot about the great wines. It's our favorite winery for a reason. We'll be back, but first we'll see each other at the fair. Keep it up 👍

We happened to be in Erden today and stopped by Schmitges. We spontaneously went into the beautiful tasting room and were immediately greeted in a very friendly manner. A very competent young man who gave us excellent advice (he puts his heart and soul into it). It's a pleasure to shop there. Highly recommended!

Forget the big winemakers. Go here instead. It's much more worthwhile. We went spontaneously for a wine tasting. And we were very impressed. Delicious wines, great, caring advice. Thank you 🫶🏼

They offer 25 wines tasting with 15euros. There are also some snacks to enjoy with the wine. Their wine are quite ok, specially love the 24th! The mineral aromas is so special! I would recommend going there!
