A Legacy of Winemaking Since 1744

Weingut Schmitges has been crafting exceptional wines since 1744, specializing in the renowned Riesling grape. Nestled on the steep slopes overlooking the picturesque Mosel River, this winery offers a unique experience for wine enthusiasts. The vineyard's gradients can reach up to 70%, making handpicking the grapes essential. Specially designed machinery is used to navigate these narrow, breathtaking terrains.

Riesling Varieties to Suit Every Palate

The vineyard boasts some of the oldest vines in the region, with many over 100 years old and some even ungrafted—a rarity in Europe due to the Phylloxera crisis. The winemakers at Schmitges take pride in producing complex, mature Rieslings. Grapes are often left on the vine until late November, allowing for rich flavors of smokiness, minerality, ripe apples, and peaches to develop.

Relax and Taste the Best of Mosel

After enjoying the stunning views of the Rheinland, visitors can retreat to the Schmitges Winery's cozy wine bar. Here, you can sample a diverse selection of Rieslings, showcasing the grape's remarkable versatility. Whether you prefer a crisp, dry wine or a sweet dessert style, there's a Riesling to match your taste.

Very nice tasting room in Erden. Parking right out front and a small outdoor seating area across the street that you could enjoy a glass of wine.

We were there yesterday for a little wine tasting. It was great. After the store opened, we were warmly welcomed and learned a lot about the great wines. It's our favorite winery for a reason. We'll be back, but first we'll see each other at the fair. Keep it up 👍

We happened to be in Erden today and stopped by Schmitges. We spontaneously went into the beautiful tasting room and were immediately greeted in a very friendly manner. A very competent young man who gave us excellent advice (he puts his heart and soul into it). It's a pleasure to shop there. Highly recommended!
