Château Loudenne: A Historic Winery in Bordeaux

Château Loudenne, affectionately known as the Pink Château of the Médoc region, is a distinguished winery nestled in the renowned Bordeaux wine-making area of France. This estate gained prominence in the 1920s, hosting glamorous events attended by the elite of the region, making it a social hub of its time.

The winery is not only celebrated for its rich history but also for its stunning Victorian-style wine cellar, set amidst beautifully landscaped gardens that offer breathtaking views of the Gironde estuary. Additionally, the estate features its own private harbor, enhancing its charm.

Prime Location for Winemaking

Situated along the banks of the Gironde estuary, Château Loudenne benefits from an exceptional terroir characterized by gravel-rich soil. This unique location positively influences the local climate, providing warm springs that protect against frost and mild autumns that promote optimal grape ripening. The cooler summers help mitigate the effects of heat waves, while the dry Atlantic breeze keeps the vines healthy by reducing moisture and preventing mildew.

Vineyard Composition

Château Loudenne spans 132 hectares, with 62 hectares dedicated to vineyards. Of these, 48 hectares are planted with red grape varieties, including 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. The remaining 14 hectares are devoted to white grape varieties, with 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon. This diverse selection allows the winery to produce a range of elegant wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the Bordeaux region.

Yesterday we visited Château Loudenne as a family. The place is magnificent, the visit interesting and the tasting very pleasant. We opted for the picnic option by the water and the whole family loved it. Thanks to Enzo for the well-conducted visit, to Anais for the commented tasting and to Maël for his welcome. A top-notch team of young people!

Organized in partnership with the small boat trip of Échappée Nature Vitrezay. Upon arrival at the private port of Château Loudenne, the guides tell us about the history, the architect of the estate and the great wines. Chic picnic in the cellar with tasting of delicious glasses. Tour of the wine cellars, visit of the museum... and tasting! Don't forget your basket to bring back some succulent finds... It was a wonderful day! What a great idea this partnership is!! WELL DONE

By far the best visit and story I had! Many thanks to Mael who was extraordinary, welcoming and professional! This visit should be an example for all French tourism. It is complete, super well done, super enjoyable, enriching, simple and the location is sublime.

Magnificent place with its castle, its park and its vineyards accessible to all and the view of the Gironde estuary. Warm welcome from the guide who took us through the cellars and gave us all the interesting information about wine and the history of the castle. A quick tour of the museum to immerse ourselves in the history of the castle and then the tasting of several wines in a pretty setting. All this great free time is a big plus 👍

We were at a wine tasting on the Chateau Loudenne. This is a typical Bordeaux winehouse in the Medoc region. The place was stylish and the wine was elegant. The only complaint is that there was only two small glasses of the wine.
