Altavins, a Boutique Winery Southwest of Catalonia
Located in the southwest of Catalonia, the Altavins is a small, family winery that is part of the DO Terra Alta and has a long history and tradition in winemaking. With their philosophy of ‘Identity, Honesty, Mediterranean Spirit’, they produce quality wines from famed local varietals that express the terroir and the local traditions. Mono-varietal wines like our skin-macerated Garnacha Blanca and our rare and wild Garnacha Peluda show the true identity of these ancient lands. The company was set up in 2001 and has made a name for itself in the wine business. They take pride in growing high-quality grapes and enhance the quality of wines by minimal human intervention and ecological, sustainable methods.
Terroir of Altipla, Valls and La Plana
Their vineyards are present in the best location of Terra Alta including Altipla, Valls and La Plana. The vines are on steep slopes around 350 meters above sea level. The region’s soil has many minerals and limestone, a dry Mediterranean climate, abundant rainfall and low sunshine that makes the region perfect for vine cultivation. They use sustainable, environment-friendly techniques that help in the protection of the environment and in natural ripening of the grapes. High temperature variations allow the grapes to give an intense fruity taste and aroma to the wines. The main grape varieties here are the Garnacha Peluda, Garnacha Blanca and Carignan. The best grapes are used to make their award-winning red, white and rose wines. The wines are loved by their customers and clearly reflect the qualities of their rich terroir.
