Swedish-Owned Bell Cros
Bell Cros is owned by Swedish entrepreneurs, Peter and Ann Skoglund, who have put together a talented team of local wine enthusiasts headed by famous winemaker Joan Asens. Their aim is to put forth DO Mostant wines to the world. Bell Cros is a relatively new vineyard with old vines. They respect their centuries-old tradition but have an eye on the future. The combination of joy, pride, knowledge of winemaking makes them work so well. Bell Cros wants to spread joy and happiness with its DO Montsant wines.
Old Vineyards around the Winery
The name Bell Cros is also the name of their wines. Bell stands for beautiful while Cros is Valley in the Catalan language. The vineyards in this area are small, and Bell Cros bought six nearby vineyards. Harvests are small, and the focus is on the quality of the grapes. Most of the vines here are 50 years old and form a special part of the company. The Mediterranean Sea influences the climate here. This works well with the soil and promotes viticulture here.
Production at the Winery
The main grapes grown here are Carinyena and Garnacha which are typical to the DO Montsant. These grapes form the backbone of the winery’s wine production and are used to make red, white, and rose wines. The vineyards are in the process of conversion into organic. The company makes around 50,000 bottles annually. In 2020-21 many new wines will be added to their catalogue. They organize various wine activities and tastings for tourists.
