Cava Mestres – Family-Owned Winery, First Bottles Released in 1928
The Mestres Familyhas been in the wine business since 1312 in the Penedes winegrowing region. During Christmas 1928, the first bottle of Cava Mestres was released and the trajectory of the winemaking business took off. The vineyards and the winery of Cava Mestres are located in Sant Sadurni d’Anoia region outside of Barcelona. Now the 29th generation of the Mestres Family is running the centuries-old family business. Their wines still reflect the rich winemaking history and tradition of the Cava Mestres Winery.

The Penedes Region has diversity in its climate conditions as it is located between the sea and mountains. There is a unique Mediterranean climate in this area. There are dry summers and mild winters. October and November have a lot of rainfall and are best for cultivation of fresh and flavorful grapevines. The temperatures range between 7 degrees to 23 degrees all year. The climate and soil gives the characteristic taste and aroma to the wines of Cava Mestres.
Second Fermentation in the Bottle and Closed with Natural Cork
The cellar at Cava Mestres is located below the main town square. All traditional sparkling winemaking processes go into their production. Natural cork is used to close the bottles during the second fermentation. Prior to bottle fermentation, old chestnut barrels are used to age the wines. The harvest from the vines at Cava Mestres is very high quality with very low yields. All grapes are manually harvested and collected with the utmost of care.
