A Rich Family Heritage in Bordeaux

Château Cantenac has been a cornerstone of winemaking in Bordeaux since the late 18th century. Over the years, the estate has undergone significant transformations, all aimed at enhancing the quality of its wines. A pivotal moment came in 1997 when Nicole Roskam-Brunot, the daughter of Albert, took the helm of Château Cantenac and Château Moulin de Grenet. Under her leadership, new cuvées were introduced, the vineyard expanded, and initiatives for international distribution and wine tourism flourished. In 2001, Nicole made history as one of the first female Jurats, showcasing her commitment to the region and its wines. During this time, her sons and daughters-in-law joined the family business, further enriching the estate's legacy.

In 2020, Nicole passed the management of the winery to the fourth generation, ensuring that the family’s passion for winemaking continues to thrive. Today, Château Cantenac stands as a testament to tradition, innovation, and a deep-rooted love for the art of wine.

Very informative, relaxed and personal tour of the winery and the vines followed by a tasting in a stylish room in the chateau - an entertaining afternoon all about the history of Chateau Cantenac. We were happy to have discovered this family-run, rather small winery.

A great wine education

My wife and I were part of a group tour of this winery May 2025. AJ was our guide for this tour and what a tour it was. She knows the wine making and grape growing processes very well and is able to communicate this knowledge in a way that is both fun and enlightening. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and loved the wines.

We found Chateau Cantenac purely by accident while planning a visit to the Bordeaux region. Thankfully, the Chateau was kind enough to allow us to book a visit for our family of five. We found Adrienne Jennifer (AJ), who conducted the tour, to be an intelligent, articulate host who spoke to us in enviable detail about the history of the chateau, the family lore, the soil, grapes, climate, terroir and everything in between. In short, those interested in an authentic excursion into this great wine region could do worse than visit Cantenac. Oh, and lest I forget, the tour ended, as one would expect, with a tasting of three superb wines, which we look forward to ordering directly. Highly recommended!

We found the Chateau as an add in the tourism book advertising this is a family business and they won many wine prize. It was referred as the ' Best wine tour ' and this is correct. I emailed them last minute and in few hours it was booked and organised. It was a first French time experience for my Australian family to visit and taste wine in this region. Our arrival was very well welcomed by Adrienne who is a native English speaker which is perfect if you don't speak French. The Chateau is in Saint Emilion and very easy to find. We took the tour at 75 euros to try 4 Grand Cru with cheese. The tasting is inside of the Chateau after learning of the wine-family history, the visit of the vines and how you make wine with some anecdotes. The tour were private which is a must as big wine name only offer tour for groups. We did not know which millesimal to chose so they did for us and the years was incredible! Adrienne has so much knowledge to share that you will leave the place with many tips for your next tasting. We bought some wine ( Grand Cru 2014 ) for our engagement lunch and let me tell you all the bottles are empty!! Everyone loved it! If you are looking for simplicity, authenticity, familial, professionnalism and really amazing wine, I will recommend their Chateau100%!!!

This was by far the best winery tour experience I've ever had. First, because it's super intimate and authentic, you don't feel like you're at Disney like you do with many others. Second, because the tour given by Adrienne makes all the difference. In addition to being part of the family that owns the Chateau, she is a trained expert on the subject with a lot of knowledge. Very friendly, fun and caring. A truly special visit. Don't miss it!

I just added myself to the plethora of positive opinions about this place and their visits. We came with 5 friends, and had a great time with Adrienne, who made us laugh and who offered a rich, interesting visit, and especially with her very personal touch which is very pleasant to give us all the stories of the family and the place. Despite rainy and cold weather, the place remained beautiful to visit, and a very interesting and delicious wine. We had a 1 hour appointment, and since no one was following, we even stayed 2.5 hours to enjoy and chat. I highly recommend it!
