Experience Biodynamic Winemaking Near Bordeaux
A Family-Owned Winery with a Unique Approach
Château de Chastelet spans 17 acres on the outskirts of the Bordeaux appellation, just south of the city. The winery is owned by Valerie and Sylvere, who transitioned from their previous careers—Sylvere as a chef and Valerie as an interior designer—after purchasing the estate in 2008. They have since adopted biodynamic practices, a rarity in the Bordeaux region. The vineyard boasts grapevines that are 30 to 70 years old, producing approximately 17,000 bottles of wine each year.
Biodynamic Wines from Bordeaux
The primary grape varieties cultivated at Château de Chastelet include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, along with Petit Verdot and Malbec. The wines are characterized by aromas of cedar wood, spices, and earthy notes, with hints of dark baking spices and chocolate. While fruit aromas are subtle, you can expect to find bright tart cherry and raspberry notes. The wines typically have a light body and a smooth mid-palate, with low tannin levels, making them approachable and enjoyable.
