New to Winemaking and Successful in Their Craft

The Chateau De Chastelet winery covers an area of 17 acres on the edge of the Bordeaux appellation, the winery is right south of the Bordeaux. Most of the north and northeast of the town produce all well-known red wines featured as Bordeaux. Now, the family of Valerie and Sylvere own the winery whereas Sylvere previously worked as a chef and Valerie was an interior designer. They bought the estate in 2008 and convert to biodynamic practices. Most of the wines at Chateau De Chastelet vineyard are 30-50 years old. Some are even 70 years old. The winery produces early 17,000 bottles annually.

Biodynamic Wines made in Bordeaux

Their primary grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. They also grow Petit Verdot and Malbec. The Chastelet follows biodynamic principles, which are extremely rare in the Bordeaux region. The Chastelet wines feature a cedar wood, spice or earthy aroma. Some also feature a strong dark baking spice and chocolate aroma with less prominant fruit aromas. The Chastelet wines often have raspberries and bright tart cherry notes yet they have a clear, smooth mid-palate. The overall wine body is light and low in tannin structure.
