The Story of Château de Cranne

Jean Villars bought a few hectares in 1833 for viticulture as well as traditional crop farming. After marrying Eugene Patchon in 1870, the couple began wie production and become the first winemakers in the Garonne Region. Château de Cranne is a successful seventh generation family run winery. The vineyard is famous for the quality of its sweet white and red wines.

Modernization and mechanization are huge attractions of Château de Cranne’s cellar. The Second World War created a lot of complications and agricultural mechanization was on the rise. A massive revolution took place, as viticulture was also on the rise post war time. New varieties of red grape became fashionable with the restructuring of vineyards planting both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. At Château de Crannet, the main philosophy in the vineyards focuses on quality, management, and communication to produce the best possible wines. Currently, Château de Cranne has vineyards covering 43 hectares. The white grape varieties planted include Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, and Muscadelle. Red varieties include Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
