Some say that Château de Rayne Vigneau vineyard was the second best wine producer in Sauternes. The winery takes its name from its early owners Baronne de Rayne and Etienne du Vigneau. This is a large vineyard covering an area of 77 hectares. It plants 74% Semillion, 24% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle grape varieties. The terroir of the winery is sand, gravel, rocks, clay and stone soils, and locates on a plateau. It reaches 75 meters at its pick, which gives it one of the few highest elevations in the Sauternes appellation.
The Château de Rayne Vigneau winery produces wine after pneumatic pressing. It ages wines in new, French oak barrels. Their wines are sweet, incredible and always feel fresh and never cloying. Their wines make the best food pairing with seafood dishes, especially crab, oysters, shellfish and lobster. You can pair Chateau Rayne Vigneau best with veal, pork and roasted chicken.
The Chateau de Rayne Vigneau winery remains open to travellers seven days a week in season. You will find the wine tour interesting and very informative. A tasting session will round off your tour of the winery. Its beautiful location atop a hill offers a mesmerising 360 degrees view across the winery. You can’t resist enjoying some fine wines at the winery while soaking up in the beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Make sure you make an appointment before visiting the winery for a tour of their cellars, vineyards or wine tasting.
