Experience the Charm of Graves Winery Château Jouvente
Château Jouvente: A Young Winery in Graves
Founded in 2016 by brothers David and Benjamin Gutmann, Château Jouvente is nestled in Illats, a picturesque town within the Graves appellation of Bordeaux. This young winery is dedicated to producing red wines that showcase remarkable character, fruitiness, and elegance. Their dry white wines are equally impressive, offering a fresh, aromatic, and complex profile that appeals to wine enthusiasts.
Grape Varieties at Château Jouvente
Spanning 8.7 hectares, the vineyard consists of 6.7 hectares of red vines and 2 hectares of white vines. The red grape composition includes 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot. For white wines, the blend features 55% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Sauvignon Gris, and 5% Muscadelle. Hand-harvested grapes for white wine are pressed using a pneumatic press, followed by fermentation in new barrels and aging for 9 to 10 months. The winemakers regularly stir the wine during this process, enhancing its richness.
Red Wine Production at Château Jouvente
For red wines, the grapes are machine-harvested and sorted to ensure only the best are selected. After de-stemming, the grapes are placed in stainless steel vinification vats for fermentation, which lasts 4 to 5 weeks. The wines are then aged for 12 months in 25% new French oak barrels. Château Jouvente invites wine lovers to learn about their winemaking techniques and taste their exceptional wines. The winery is open seven days a week, welcoming visitors to experience the beauty of Bordeaux's Graves region.
