The Story of Château Thieuley

Château Thieuley, a family-owned winery, has its roots in 1950 when André Courselle acquired this estate in the renowned Bordeaux region. His vision laid the groundwork for a remarkable vineyard. In 1972, his son Francis, an engineer and oenology professor, took over and expanded the vineyards from 4 to 80 hectares over three decades. Today, the estate is managed by Francis's daughters, Marie and Sylvie, who carry on the family tradition. Both women, trained as Agricultural Engineers and oenologists, have traveled the globe, gaining valuable experience in various wineries. Marie oversees the technical aspects of winemaking, while Sylvie manages the commercial side.

A Commitment to Sustainability

At Château Thieuley, winemaking is a blend of tradition and innovation. The winery has always prioritized sustainable practices, ensuring a harmonious balance in the vineyards. Since the 2017 vintage, the winery has achieved Terra Vitis certification, confirming its commitment to organic winemaking methods that respect the environment.

Crafting Unique Blended Wines

The vineyards at Château Thieuley produce both red and white Bordeaux AOC wines in equal measure, a rarity in the Bordeaux region, which is primarily known for its reds. Each wine is a blend of grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, and Sémillon for whites, and Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon for reds. The blend proportions vary by cuvée and vintage, as the family believes that each grape variety contributes unique aromas and flavors, resulting in a more complex wine than single-varietal options.
