Collaboration of Two Visionary Winemakers

Ivan and Margaret Sutherland are pioneers in Marlborough's wine scene, having planted their first grapes in the late 1970s. Their partnership with James Healy, whom Ivan met while working at Cloudy Bay Vineyards, led to the evolution of the Cloudy Bay brand. In 2004, they founded Dog Point Vineyard, focusing on a hands-on approach to winemaking. With a commitment to quality and sustainability, the two couples continue to work together, ensuring a legacy for the next generation of passionate winemakers.

Located in a Premier Wine Region

Dog Point Vineyard is a family-owned boutique winery nestled at the intersection of the Brancott and Omaka Valleys, within Marlborough, New Zealand's premier wine-growing region. The vineyard produces wines that reflect the dedication and passion of its makers while honoring the natural integrity of the land. The portfolio includes a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, a barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc, a rich Chardonnay, and a vibrant Pinot Noir. All grapes are hand-picked from low-cropped vines cultivated under organic principles, with a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking. These wines are crafted for immediate enjoyment or for aging gracefully.

Ideal Conditions for Grape Growth

Marlborough boasts one of the sunniest and driest climates in New Zealand, characterized by significant temperature variations between warm days and cool nights. This unique climate creates optimal conditions for grape ripening, allowing the fruit to develop rich flavors and balanced acidity, essential for producing high-quality wines.

Dog point was our favorite wine tasting experience in all of New Zealand. Winston hosted us and was warm, friendly, and provided wonderful insight into the farming practices that go into the wine. The wines themselves were also delicious and he even had us taste a 2011 Sauvignon blanc! He also brought us into the vineyard. Highly recommend booking a tasting with them!

The best wine tasting (of many) we did in Malborough! An interesting and personal story with one of the owners, Matt, at the table. For dessert we also got a nice tour of the vineyards. The 4 wines themselves are also fantastic, definitely recommend picking up a few bottles afterwards!

We had a wonderful tasting at Dog Point. We have a couple of their wines in San Francisco and loved them, so we emailed Dog Point and they got right back to us with their availability for a tasting and brief tour. Everyone was so lovely and down to earth and inviting, and the wines we tasted were even better than the ones we can get in the US. We went to other wineries too and they all said that Dog Point is one of the best in the area!!

We had a fantastic experience at Dog Point Winery! When we arrived on Wednesday, we learned that tastings are by appointment at 11 AM, so we booked for the following morning – and it was well worth it. While they focus on just four wines, each one is crafted beautifully. Winston was an absolute gem, taking us up into the vineyards to show where they grow their different grape varieties. His knowledge and passion made the visit even more special. Our favorites were the special Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir—both exceptional! Dog Point is definitely a winery to remember. Thanks for making our visit so enjoyable! Jamie & Becs

Amazing wines, everyone knows Dog point wines never get wrong, especially their Section 94! Staff members are friendly and helpful. I told them my parents don't speak English and can we have the tour in slow pace. They even arrange a separate tour for us and get their vine manager Mr. Guo who can speak Cantonese to introduce to us. Unfortunately, we can only speak Mandarin, so translation is needed🤣 He knows so well about the vineyards and he is truely love his job and Dog Point. My parents are very pleased with the whole tour. Highly recommend!!!
