New Zealand's Premier Winery for Méthode Traditionelle Sparkling Wines
No.1 Family Estate: A Boutique Sparkling Wine Specialist in Marlborough
No.1 Family Estate is a boutique winery founded by Adele and Daniel Le Brun, dedicated to crafting exceptional New Zealand sparkling wines using the Traditional sparkling wine method. As the only winery in New Zealand focused exclusively on premium Méthode Traditionelle wines, they have gained recognition for producing sparkling wines that compete with the finest globally. Daniel, an award-winning winemaker, draws on twelve generations of Champagne expertise to create these remarkable wines. Established in 1997, the estate is a family affair, with Adele managing business and marketing, while their children, Remy and Virginie, contribute to the winery's success. The estate has received numerous accolades, and Daniel was honored with France’s National Order of Merit for his contributions to New Zealand-France relations and agriculture.
Since 2009, No.1 Family Estate has been certified for sustainability, ensuring that their sparkling wine production respects the environment.
Traditional Grape Varieties for Sparkling Excellence
The winery cultivates traditional Champagne grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. These grapes are known for their ability to age gracefully, resulting in wines that are fresh, crisp, and full of character.
From France to New Zealand: A Winemaking Legacy
Daniel Le Brun's ambition was to create the finest Méthode Traditionelle wines in the world. After visiting New Zealand, he purchased land in the Wairau Valley town of Renwick, believing that Marlborough's unique soils and climate could rival the renowned Champagne region. The vineyard, situated in the Wairau River bed area, benefits from ideal conditions for vine cultivation, including optimal soil, temperature, and rainfall. Since 2009, the estate has prioritized sustainability, ensuring that their winemaking practices protect the environment.
