Fermí Bohigas, S.A., also known as Caves Bohigas, is a picturesque winery located in the Penedès Superior region of Spain. Nestled in the Anoia river basin in Òdena, just under 70 km from Barcelona, this estate boasts a rich history that spans over eight centuries. The vineyards and cellars are situated at Can Macià, a site steeped in tradition and winemaking heritage.

A Legacy Since the 13th Century

The origins of Can Macià, formerly known as Mas Moragues, can be traced back to the 13th century. This estate has remained in the same family for generations, adapting its name along with its lineage. In 1933, Joan Vives Gilbert shifted the focus of production towards cava, a type of cellar-aged sparkling wine. The first retail release of Can Macià’s cava took place during the Christmas season of 1936. Today, the Bohigas family oversees more than 35 hectares of vineyards on a sprawling 200-hectare estate, which also includes fields of cereal crops and woodlands.

The Penedès Superior region features a diverse landscape between the sea and mountains, creating various microclimates ideal for viticulture. The wines produced here are classified under the DO Cava and DO Catalunya appellations, utilizing grape varieties such as Xarel·lo, Macabeu, Parellada, Sumoll, Garnatxa Negra, Garnatxa Blanca, Trepat, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay.
