Cantina Pizzolato Winery, Organic Winemaking in Treviso
Producing one of the best organic wines, the La Cantina Pizzolato Winery is located in the flourishing countryside, in the north of Treviso, in the Veneto region of Italy. The winemaking history of Pizzolato Family has long-standing origins. Today, with great determination, the fifth generation is handling the management of La Cantina Pizzolato and producing the highest quality organic wines.
Keeping the Balance of Biodiversity in the Vineyards
The roots of the La Cantina Pizzolato Winery are standing on the traditional philosophy of the Pizzolato Family. The story started when Settimo Pizzolato joined the winemaking business along with his father Gino in 1981. His desire to maintain the balance between biodiversity and viticulture and his love for nature led him to the production of fine organic wines under the Veneto DOC status. Later in 1991, the estate obtained the organic certification, and since then it is producing bio wines, expressing the traditions, terroirs, and soil characteristics of the Prosecco di Treviso DOC region. La Cantina Pizzolato extends over an area of 72 hectares. The owner of the Pizzolato Winery collaborates with other producers of the Veneto DOC region, contributing an additional 48 hectares, to produce organic wines. For the production of sparkling wines, the owner uses Charmat method also known as Tank method to vinify the organic grapes, including Pinot Grigio, Moscato, aIncrocio Manzoni and Chardonnay, in combination with red varieties, such as Merlot, Cabernet and Raboso.
Renewable Resources in the Winery
At present, the wine cellar of La Cantina Pizzolato is equipped with modern technologies, such as installation of solar cells, aging in new wooden barrels, and much more. Settimo has beautifully combined both traditional and advanced technologies for his organic wine production stages. The entire company roof is covered by photovoltaic solar panels (more than 570) and a new organic water purifier has been installed for the re-use of 100% of the filtered water. In 2018, after having been decreed “Excellence of the landscape” at Vinitaly by the Mipaaf, the Cellar was present at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, selected from over 500 projects of Italy.
