Le Bignele- Family Winery surrounded by the Valpolicella Hills near the country village of Valgatara
The history of the Le Bignele wine farm dates back to 1818 when a local family purchased some land around Bignele surrounded by the Valpolicella Hills near the country village of Valgatara. The farm still operates as a family run business and all wine making processes are completed by hand by various members of the family.
Grape Harvesting and Processing
During the harvest time, every member of the family has a role in the production of the Classic Valpolicella wines which are made on the farm. At this time the grapes are hand picked, laid in wooden cases and dried in the vineyards for almost 120 days, depending on the vintage. Once these grapes are pressed, they are used to produce Amarone and Recioto Classico della Valpolicella. Each wine produced has its own story and particular processing system which makes each bottle unique and special.
Winery’s Most Popular Wines
At the moment, the farm produces only red wines, using grape varietals including Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara. The most popular wines of the farm are the Doseto del Nonno, the Valpolicella Classico Superioire, the Valpolicella Classico Superiore “Ripasso”, the Amarone Classico della Valpolicella and the Recioto Classico della Valpolicella. Along with wine there are also other popular products sold to visitors on the farm such as the much enjoted cherry jam which is made from cherries grown and harvested on the land of Marano di Valpolicella.
All visitors to Marano di Valpocella must be sure to add a trip to Le Bignele winery onto their itineraries.
