Maius Viticultors Winery, Established in 1949

Maius Viticultors is a superb winery in the center of Sant Cugat del Valles which was established in 1949. Manuel Gomez founded the store for selling retail wines. In 1992, there was a significant change in the functioning of this family business. Maius Viticultors then started a wine shop with an extensive range of high-quality wine brands and designations along with a small restaurant for visitors to enjoy. 

Priorat and the Exceptional WInes of the Region

In 1998, the owners of Maius Viticultors began producing their own wines. After reviewing the various denominations of origin, they chose Priorat for the Denomination of Origin to classify their wines. The area was best for the style and character they wanted for their wines and fits to the house style in many aspects. With the help and support of famous wine producer, Joan Mila, Maius Viticultors Winery recreated their wine production facilities and produced their first vintage in 2004.

Maius Viticultors Winery’s vineyards stretch throughout Barrand de la Bruixa in Catalonia. The area has high altitude as the vines grown here populate small terraces carved into the mountain slopes. The land has a variety of soils including rocks, limestone, and the traditional licorella slate. The vineyards have narrow vine stalks and elevated roundabouts. They require low irrigation and give a unique flavor to the wines. Workers select the best grapes by hand and then gently transport them to Maius Viticultors for further processing. The winery is sustainable and eco-friendly as they use solar energy and recycle all rainwater for watering their vines. Almost eight percent of the winery is underground, which helps to maintain an optimum temperature of around 15 degrees. Wood, stone, and concrete make up Maius Viticultors’ facilities which perfectly fit with the beautiful natural surroundings.
