The Beginning of the Journey

Oswald is a vineyard established in 2008 by John and Dina-Maire Oswald. The vineyard started with the dream for the couple along with 10 of their children to do something together. Although not all 10 are involved in the wine business, the story began on their vacation to the west of Texas. Where they were introduced to the farming lifestyle and were intrigued by the idea of growing grapes. John took the next step by switching careers from a chemist to a winemaker and opened up the Oswald vineyards.

The Vines of Oswald

In 2008, the family moved to Texas to establish the vineyard. They planted 5 acres of grapevines in the spring that year and over the year continued to expand, now owning over 43 acres of vines. The grapes varieties include Roussanne, Montepulciano, Aglianico, as well as, Petit Verdo, Muscato Giallo, Albarino and Vermentino. Leaving the “secure” corporate world to begin a vineyard has been challenging to say the least! Funded by all our savings, cashing in our retirement fund, good hard work and even a newspaper delivery route to make ends meet - the rewards have been endless. Building together has enhanced a strong work ethic as well as great family relationships. Along the way we acquired chickens, cows (for milk and beef), ducks and a gillion dogs. We also have 4 - 50A hook-ups (and 30A adapters) to enhance your stay and enjoyment of our wine (nominal fee).

Stopped by for an afternoon tasting. We had a great time talking with the family and they did a amazing job walking us through our tasting and answering all my crazy questions. Got to hang out with some other folks who were camping at the vineyard as well. Can't wait to bring our camper and stay next time we are in the area!

Wow. This little place is remarkable. My wife likes white, I like red. We tried all 4 whites and 2 reds, and we both liked all 6. I’m taking a case home. I love to try little family wineries. You never know what you’re going to get. Normally everything is interesting, but quality is uneven . Not this place; the quality is solid across the board. Definitely worth going off the beaten path!! FYI: they don’t yet make a true sweet wine; they are all dry wines. But they harvest their grapes relatively late, so I think the aromatics have a lot of that “late harvest “ character.

We stopped in and stayed the night with our travel trailer inside the vineyard. They have RV camping spots with electrical hookups. We also did a wine tasting which was awesome. Im not much of a wine drinker but I appreciate the process. Their wines are pretty damn good even for someone like me. Overall with the camping and tasting, it was a very fun experience! They have a big white dog that walks the ground that got along with our Australian shepherds and he’s pretty cool and laid back. Give this place a try, you’ll enjoy it!

Wonderful cute winery! We had a wine tasting and bought bottles as well. My favorite is the Roussanne but the others were nice as well. The big white dog is a regal lady and loves pets! For Harvest Host RV campers, this is a great spot to stay. We're in back by the bottling barn, beautiful sunset, totally quiet and secluded. As of Dec 2021 they have electrical hookups and water available. Can't ask for more. Best of luck to this fun wine family!
