Experience the Unique Flavors of the Douro Valley
The Douro Valley, renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich winemaking heritage, inspired Isabel and Pedro Carmo to launch Quinta de Cottas in 2006. This winery, nestled in the picturesque Alijó Valley, focuses on producing exceptional Douro and Port wines. With a commitment to quality, they restored the estate's historic vineyards and cultivated new ones, ensuring that each bottle reflects the unique terroir of this remarkable region.
Shale Soils and Heritage Vineyards
Quinta de Cottas is dedicated to sustainable viticulture, prioritizing environmental responsibility to protect the Douro's biodiversity for future generations. The 10-hectare estate is home to traditional grape varieties, preserving the region's genetic heritage. Among the 16 different types of old vines, some are over 70 years old, including Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela, and Tinta Carvalha. New vineyards are planted in designated areas, ensuring the purity of each variety. The estate also cultivates red grapes like Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cão, alongside white varieties such as Viosinho, Gouveio, and Arinto.
Distinctive Wines with Character
The combination of low-yield production and diverse vineyard types results in high-quality grapes with concentrated flavors. This careful approach allows Quinta de Cottas to create wines that truly represent the estate's unique terroir. By maintaining low yields, the winery maximizes the quality and aromatic intensity of its wines, offering a genuine taste of the Douro Valley's rich winemaking tradition.
