Quinta do Silval: A Legacy in the World’s Oldest Wine Region
The Douro region of Portugal is renowned as the oldest wine-producing area in the world, with a history that dates back over 2,000 years to the Roman Empire. In 2001, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its exceptional wines and breathtaking landscapes. The wines from this region reflect its unique terroir and storied past.
A Family Tradition of Winemaking
Quinta do Silval has a rich history that spans centuries, with roots in the mid-19th century when the winery began producing Ports. The current owners are part of one of three family branches that have long been connected to the Douro Valley. This heritage allows Quinta do Silval to honor both the traditions of the region and the family’s legacy in winemaking.
Exceptional Terroir and Vineyard Practices
Quinta do Silval boasts some of the highest-rated vineyards in the Demarcated Region of Douro. Spanning 22 hectares, the vineyards are situated at altitudes between 100 m and 500 m, benefiting from optimal sunlight and nutrient-rich clay soils.
