Mathern Winery, Established in the 1980s
In the breathtaking valley of Nahe River, the Mathern Winery is situated in the municipality of Niederhausen, on the steep slopes, in the southwest of Germany. Dotted by picturesque countryside and vineyards, the estate has won several awards for their wines. The wines convey the essence of their fertile land and volcanic soils from which they are made.
High-Quality Wines, Delicious Grape Juice, Brandy, and Liqueurs
Weingut Mathern was established by Helmut Mathern in the 1980s, along with his father, Oskar. After Helmut’s untimely death, his wife, Gloria, took over the winery business and continued the family legacy. Today, apart from producing high-quality wines, the estate also deliver delicious grape juice, brandy, and liqueurs.
Most of the grapevines at Mathern Winery are over 50 years old.
Grown Grapes and Exquisite Guest Accomodations
Gloria, the Mathern Winery owner, has dedicated more than 11 hectares of land to vineyards where she grows a variety of grapes. She guides her staff to cultivate world-class Riesling, Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Müller-Thurgau, and Pinot Blanc. Most of the grapevines are over 50 years old. All the harvesting methods are performed manually, and only the carefully selected juicy grape bunches participate in fermentation. Using these berries, the estate produces luscious wines, including red and rosé wines, in combination with high-end white and sparkling wines.
The winery also provides facilities of accommodation in their guest house, located near the estate. Alte Schule was initially a school, which was acquired by the owners in 2007. They have renovated the old school into a lovely guesthouse with four well-furnished apartments and two unique, loft-like dwellings. If your pets are with you on the trip, facilities can be arranged.
